11TH ANNUAL EXPOTRASTIENDAS ART FAIR IN BUENOS AIRES 1ST to 5th of September 2011 Art is a very big part of argentine life, in fact, may people say that Buenos Aires is the cultural capital of South America and who am I to argue. The minute you arrive you notice, literally!! Last week I was invited to an art exhibition opening at the airport hallway art space La Paz. Can you believe it, prospective buyers were sipping champagne, mingling and deciding, and all the while jetlagged passengers kept creeping by with their luggage with perplexed looks in their sleepy eyes. Chez moi, art has always been present. Both my aunt (my photograph is of her painting) Poupee Tessio and my brother Mariano Airaldi are artists, and my mother is their unofficial Theo van Gogh as well as a furnisher restaurateur . As for my father, the ambassador, he is a collector of old photography and is responsible together with my mother for a very interesting collection of argentine paintings. My sister and I are starting collections thanks to the great prices, our aunt´s “donations” and the great talent young talent in Argentina. 11TH ANNUAL EXPOTRASTIENDAS is an art fair organized annually by the Argentine Association of Galleries since 2001. This year´s edition kicks off a new decade for this mega fest of local art.
